History

La Tondena began as a humble distillery built by Don Carlos Palanca in Tondo, Manila in 1902. This firm, named La Tondena Incorporada (LTI), rose to become the country's largest distillery after Don Carlos acquired Distilleria de Ayala in 1924, assuming exclusive manufacturing and distribution rights to Ginebra San Miguel. LTI subsequently acquired and developed more products and brands.

In 1987, La Tondena Distillers, Inc. (LTDI) was formed as a joint venture between the Palanca group and San Miguel Corporation.

The company has four liquor bottling plants: in Cebu, Pangasinan, Quezon, and Laguna, with a total capacity of 144,000 cases/day, and two alcohol aging facilities: in Cebu and Bulacan.

In 1997 La Tondena owned Distileria Bago, Inc. and second distillery was constructed in Pangasinan for completion in 1998.


The company currently operates four wines-and-spirits plants, one alcohol distillery and one jelly snack plant. Its products are not only distri­buted in the country but in some parts of the region as well like Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan and Malaysia.
