The foundations of BIELLE Distillery were anchored doubtless at that time of the windmills progressively with the successive evolutions and the changes of owner. The manufacture of sugar, become obsolete in the small "sucrotes" competed with by new powerful factories, left its place to rum.
Last files going back to 1929, the distillery, very small and artisanal, belonged to Master BAZILE who sold it to another notary BICOTTO who, after a bankruptcy, resold it to Mr. Paul RAMEAU in the years 1940.
This one becoming old let its tool subside, the lack of maintenance and investment obliged him "to pass the hand" to its nephew, Mr. Dominique THIERRY, who started running it in July 1975 as Development company, of which he is always the current manager.
The great uncle of the present occupants, Dominique Thiery and his family, built the two-story estate house, adjacent to the distillery. M. Thiery came to Marie Galante twenty years ago and learned the family business.
Established in 1929, the face of Bielle Distillery has changed with the times, from the days of windmills and small production volumes to today's sugarcane crushing capacity of 5 tons (22,000 lbs.) per hour.
Distillery was operating in 1997.
