The `Green Island' rum exported in small quantities to South Africa, and marketed there by World Wines and Spirits of Johannesburg, was the main rum brand blended on the island by Gilbeys (Mauritius) Ltd which the British-based International Distillers and Vintners Ltd established in 1972, along with their export company Rum Distillers (Mauritius) Ltd.
